Wayfinding Sequence / Vibrational Recall 2018/2025 documents Georgina Kleege’s encounter with the presence and absence of Richard Serra’s sculpture, Sequence. Georgina, who is blind, is a fomer Professor of Literature at Berkeley University, and the most celebrated writer on blindness and art.
Two paired films are projected wall-scale, composed by hallucinatory layering of still images that document Georgina wayfinding the presence and the absence of Sequence. One film shows her navigating the monumental sculpture that was then installed inside SFMoMA. In the second film, Georgina attempts to reperform this wayfinding in the absence of the sculpture, tracing her steps on a plaza outside the Stanford University Art Museum, where the piece was previously installed.
The 4-channel audiodescription includes: a composition of Georgina’s wayfinding self-narration from 2018, as heard through the sculptural form; a new essay in which Georgina reflects back on the encounter from a distant space-time; and two ekphrastic audiodescriptions of the two hallucinatory films.

This was a watershed exhibition for blind and blind-ish artists. A feature in Frieze explained it thus: "the exhibition highlights how blind creators harness the perceptual and imaginative qualities of their blindness to expand registers of art in exciting new ways...This approach is not about substituting one sense for another but about expanding the range of the senses with which we encounter art."
